In class we have been discussing Chicano/Chicanas and the Movement. Below is a video I found when searching for better insight for my research paper. Made in 2013 about Rebeca, a Chicano women, the video shows how she strives to better her community through the distribution of knowledge and awareness regarding voting registration, and education of Mexican history prior to colonization. I found it interesting that I could point out so many similarities in her story and events happening within her town, to that of what happened in the historical events were learning about regarding the movement in lectures and readings. After all this video was made only a year ago. I'm curious to see other opinions about the video and what connections others can see regarding class topics such as Chicana feminism, the movement, gender roles, identity, and more. So if you find it interesting, comment with your thoughts. :) - Jeveena If you would like to watch the end of the video in part 1, click on the link below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA_MS2pf1Ug&list=UUbBxt1V7b3uMRvEMJ5PT1Og

The video has so much truth, but nobody listens. because we are so stuck to machismo and the women being the love dovey and stay home mom, but some people dont want grow like that they might want to do the opposite and cant because soicety wont let you. Like "Say Nothin" fits perfectly on what this video is about. Man need to man up, or be manly, or show their friends how strong and pwoerful they are. Which relates back to pachucos, they were different from scoiety because they were knowing as the bad boys. In reality people are just not talking and hide everything away and thats why assumptions are being misread about how a Man and Women should act, say, and do around the same gender. Recently we read "Saying 'Nothing' " which I may add happened to be my favorite article by far. It explained a lot of things about the pachucas/pachucos regarding gender roles. The ladies were to act like ladies, always. If they didn't they were frowned upon/shamed by being labeled a pachuca which holds much deeper meaning with terms that belittle women for not living up to societies standard of how a females/males should speak/behave. With that being said it took me back to my childhood in which my brothers were allowed to do as they pleased because of their mere privilege of being born a male. For example my brothers would speak a certain way but when I spoke as such I would be excluded from the family. Small things like this allow us to be able to put the pachuca/pachuco movement to the side while being able to apply a similar concept as such to our everyday lives, after all they say history repeats itself.
